Sedibeng will host two World Cup teams

The Swiss are coming

Drogba and the Ivory Coast team are also staying in Sedibeng
As the 100-day mark to kick-off approaches and South African preparations for hosting the world’s soccer showcase reach fever pitch, Sedibeng District Municipality is proud to announced that two teams will be using the region as their home base.

The Swiss and Ivory Coast national football teams will both be using Sedibeng as their temporary home during the month-long FIFA World Cup Soccer tournament.

The Swiss will be based at the Emerald Resort and Casino in Vanderbijlpark, commandeering the whole resort. The players and support staff will be hosted at the Emerald Hotel and the press contingent in the Emerald River Resort. The team will use the nearby Isaac Steyl Stadium at the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) as its practice arena for which the VUT is currently getting the facilities in line with the stringent FIFA requirements.

The Ivory Coast team is staying at the Riverside Hotel in Vanderbijlpark and using the George Thabe Stadium in Sharpeville as its practice venue. The municipality is also getting that venue up to scratch.

The fact that two teams and their supporters will be staying in Sedibeng during the World Cup spectacle will bring in much-needed revenue and focus the world’s attention on the beautiful Sediebng district.

Sedibeng economic development and tourism has worked hand-in-hand with Match, the official FIFA accommodation supplier, to secure sufficient accommodation; ensure sound signage and road infrastructure to accommodation facilities and promote and develop tourism and leisure.
