The Evaton Renewal Project (ERP) in Sedibeng will receive R20-million cash injection from the Sedibeng District Municipality. This deserved Christmas gift was announced on Thursday by the Sedibeng District Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr. Mahole Simon Mofokeng.

“I am proud of the developments springing up all over and this is our way of giving hope to our people,” he said at the Sedibeng District-wide imbizo held on 3 December at the Evaton Sports Ground.  The Imbizo marked the Executive Mayor’s 12 months in office since his inauguration in December 2008.

Of the sum, R10.6m will be used to implement the labour intensive project of paving five streets previously identified in Evaton.  The opportunity will give jobs to an estimated 1000 residents.

Further investment by the retail industry is expected and will take the form of a commercial housing project in the ERP’s Eastern Precinct. Coca-cola South Africa has pledged to invest R400-m to help the Lesedi Local Municipality draw underground spring water for drinking and will generate 300 jobs during its construction and the Transnet Pipeline project will create 200 jobs.

“There is definitely an interest in investing further in our District,” said Cllr. Mahole Simon Mofokeng. “Everyone is coming to the party to make the project viable.”

To accommodate cooperatives with a 30% bias to locals, Sedibeng District Municipality and its Local Municipalities supply chain policies have been amended.

Key achievements so far include the delivery of housing in Extension 23, Devon/ Impumelelo, Zone of Opportunity, library, sports fields in KwaZenzele, housing in Vischuil and KwaZenzele were underway and some near completion.

The Sedibeng District Municipality in conjunction with our Midvaal Local Municipality has successfully intervened to achieve the approval of the investment to the tune of R7billion into the Doornkuil Project for development of eighteen thousands mixed housing units project. This project will be create over 30 000 temporary jobs during the construction phase and thousands of permanent jobs post construction. The project will be implemented over a period of eight year.

A fire fighting station is also been built in Evaton, just next to the Evaton Plaza. In addition, we are expecting the development of Makro Warehouse and Builders’ Warehouse in Bedworthpark including further expansion of the Evaton Plaza.

“We’re witnessing development in its real form,” said the Mayor. “By this I mean development that considers the real needs of our people and includes them in delivery.
