The annual Tourism Indaba was held from 8-11 May 2010 at the Albert Luthuli Convention Centre (Durban ICC) in Durban and the Sedibeng District Municipality was there to ensure that the region took full advantage in marketing the region as a preferred destination during the 2010 World Cup. Special emphasis was on the 2010 offering of the region and “Discover the Vaal” was the theme for the exhibition. This was Sedibeng’s 9th year at the Indaba.

Indaba is one of the largest tourism marketing events on the African calendar and one in three “must visit” events of its kind on the global calendar. The Indaba showcases a variety of South Africa’s best tourism products, and attracts visitors and media from across the world.

The delegation to the Indaba was well represented by officials and politicians from the Sedibeng District Municipality and the local municipalities of Emfuleni, Lesedi & Midvaal, including the Executive Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality, Cllr.  Sithole Assistance Mshudulu.

The Tourism Department were also fortunate enough to include the award winners from the Sedibeng Tourism Awards in their delegation to Indaba.

A function was organised at the Sedibeng exhibition stand on Sunday, 9 May 2010 and the Executive Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality, Cllr.  Sithole Assistance Mshudulu, welcomed visitors.

Le Pommier Wine Estate in Stellenbosch generously sponsored a selection of white and red wines from their estate for a wine tasting. The event was further made special by Riverside Hotel & Conference Centre who sponsored snacks and prizes for a draw for lucky visitors to the stand.

Sedibeng’s participation in the 2010 Tourism Indaba was a major success and we look forward to marketing the region as a destination at next years event.
