FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour comes to Sedibeng
The MEC for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture: Nelisiwe Moerane and the Executive Mayor of Sedibeng took the opportunity to admire the FIFA World Cup trophy up close during its stop over in the Sedibeng region recently

The community of Sedibeng turned out in their thousands
  With the World Cup only a stones throw away, Sedibeng came to a standstill, when the solid-gold trophy, one of the most recognizable icons of global sport arrived.  Fresh from its global tour of 86 countries in 225 days, it was now time for the people of Sedibeng to get close to and admire this famous trophy.

Hosted by the Vaal University of Technology, the trophy was welcomed by thousands of people from all corners of Sedibeng. Onwell Msomi, the General Manager 2010 FIFA World Cup of Coca-Cola South Africa, the sponsors of the Trophy Tour, says “We have kept the best for last.  This is an opportunity to celebrate the first World Cup tournament on African soil and prepare the mood of the people of Sedibeng just days before the kick-off on 11 June.”

The Executive Mayor of Sedibeng, Cllr. Mahole Simon Mofokeng, who also took a photo with the prestigious trophy said, “I am bursting with pride that the trophy is here in Sedibeng, I feel that it would not have been a good thing if the trophy had not come to Sedibeng, considering that our region has also contributed to the soccer history offering legends such as Molefi Olifant, Ernest Marumo, George Thabe, and the current Bafana Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena.

The event was was also attended by the MEC for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture: Nelisiwe Moerane, the Executive Mayor of Midvaal Local Municipality Cllr. Timothy Nast, Executive Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality Cllr. Assistance Mshudulu as well as the Vice Chancellor of the Vaal University of Technology, Prof. Moutlana.
