Sedibeng launches its Women’s Month Programme

On the 22 July 2010 the Sedibeng District kicked off its Women’s Month in grand style at the Riviera-on-Vaal Hotel and Conference Centre. 2010 will be its 8th consecutive year commemorating, celebrating and championing the cause of women. This year’s month long programme will be held under theme "Women, engine for empowerment and equality / Basadi, enjene ya tswelopele le tekatekano"

The Women’s Month programme as outlined by Madam Speaker of the Sedibeng District Municipality – Cllr.  Kedibone Mogotsi, seeks to implement sustainable programmes for women empowerment, and to form sustainable partnerships between the public and private sectors as well as with women representing civil society.

Sedibeng kept its promise in hosting a successful 2010 FIFA World Cup and now it’s time for women`s month, the month that commemorates and celebrates the role of women in the struggle for freedom and society at large, since August 9th, 1956, said Cllr. Kedibone Mogotsi in her keynote address.

Women in prayer

On the 05th August 2010, Sedibeng District celebrated a day of Women in Prayer at the Meyerton Town Hall.  The event held in partnership with the South African Council of Churches (SACC) and other faith based organisations marked the 4th consecutive year since its inception in 2006.

The event aimed at unifying women from all walks and faiths in prayer and worship as they shared concerns and needs based on uplifting the community. This is one of various events presented by the Sedibeng District Municipality to commemorate Women’s Month.

The ceremony was attended by the Speaker of Sedibeng District Municipality - Cllr. Kedibone Mogotsi who also gave the keynote address as well as Emfuleni Speaker – Cllr. Greta Hlongwane and the Speaker of Lesedi – Cllr. Maria Phala.  The honoured guests included the Executive Mayor of Sedibeng District Municipality Cllr. Mahole Simon Mofokeng, religious dignitaries from various churches and esteemed councillors from the local municipalities within the Sedibeng region.
