Phelindaba Cemetery
Siyahlobisa and Qobane JV are contracted to do the construction work. Qobane is a local contractor. This project has employed 73 labourers and five local sub-contractors. It was also agreed with the Main Contractor that 30% of work and value should be sub-contracted locally. The project started on the 22 April 2010 and is expected to be completed by the 22 October 2010.
Exhibition Centre
Solidaire and Lucitha JV are contracted to do the construction work on this site. Lucitha is a local and women owned contractor. This project has thus far employed 16 labourers and two sub-contractors. 30% is earmarked for local contractors. The project started on the 15 June 2010 and is expected to be completed by January 2011. Tumelo Maloisane is a Civil Engineering student from Bophelong and he has been selected to serve his internship on this project. The project will go a long way in improving the look of the Sharpeville Memorial Precinct and put the Sedibeng region on the map as the heritage and tourism destination of choice.
Sharpeville Hall
41 local labourers were identified by the community to be trained in a variety of skills by the Sedibeng Technical Centre. The trainees are given a stipend every day for transport and food through EPWP. The project started on the 22 August 2010 and is expected to be completed by May 2011. Parts of the hall will be demolished to accommodate the new design which will merge with the Constitutional Walk building project.
Dickenson Park
This project falls under the Waterfront Precinct. Phase two of the project, which was the fencing, is now complete. The project is currently entering the third phase of construction and the developer has formed several joint venture deals with local contractors. The project will take approximately 6 months to complete and this popular venue will once again enjoy the large numbers of visitors that it hosted in the past.
The team from Sedibeng District Municipality will keep a close eye on developments on this and all other development projects in the region in an effort to speed up service delivery.
