It is that time of the year when our Matriculants sit for their year-end final examinations. It is for this reason that in Sedibeng, Friday, 22 October 2010 was a special and different day for the 2010 Matriculants of Sedibeng. The Executive Mayor of Sedibeng District Municipality, Councillor Mahole Simon Mofokeng hosted Sedibeng's 2010 Matriculants at the Rivers of Living Waters church in Evaton on this day, for a prayer service.

The purpose of this service was to pray for the learners and the smooth running of their exams which started on Monday, 25 October 2010. This event was attended by representatives from School Governing Bodies, Parents & Guardians, Educators, Education District Offices, SADTU, Councillors, Church Leaders, Grade 12 Learners and the members of the public.

It is during this period when we advise and urge parents, grandparents, guardians and other family members to give their children extra love, care and support while they prepare for and write their matric exams. We must all let them know that they have our unconditional support as they face this important gateway to their adult lives.

We must as parents, grandparents, guardians and other family members share with them that even if they do not do as well as we and they would have liked, that this is not the end of the world. There are always other opportunities to write again and improve on their matric results.

“You have spent your twelve years in preparation for this examination. When you first started school twelve years ago, you could hardly spell your name, could not hold a pen and with running noses you cried when your parents and sisters dropped you off at school”, said the Executive Mayor, Cllr. Mahole Simon Mofokeng when he addressed the matriculants who gathered at the Rivers of Living Waters on Friday, 22 October 2010 for their prayer service.

We urge all our matriculants to conduct themselves with honesty during the exams because cheating and other exam irregularities will result in a criminal record. We trust that you have taken advantage of the September camps which the Department had prepared and arranged for you and this approach has helped you a great deal.

Please continue to revise with the same focus and dedication over the remaining period of your exams. Make sure that you keep calm and read the exam questions carefully. We have confidence that you will do your best and as always, make us proud.
