The Sedibeng District Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr. Mahole Simon Mofokeng together with Members of Mayoral Committees from Sedibeng District and Emfuleni Local Municipalities visited the community of Tshepiso Phase 4 on Sunday, 28 November 2010. The purpose of this visit was a follow up and report back on the issues raised by the residents of Tshepiso Phase 4 at the Sedibeng Mayoral Committee Driven Community Outreach Programmes held previously and the developments made since then.

At this meeting, the Executive Mayor took the meeting through a progress report on service delivery challenges that the community had raised with the Municipality previously. The challenges raised by the community ranged from the need for electricity provision; need for roads in Block 10; unoccupied RDP houses; allocation of beneficiaries; moving away of containers ; subsidy Administration to Consumer Education

The community welcomed the Executive Mayor’s responses / report on all the challenges raised and in acceptance of this report, the community added other challenges that they requested the Executive Mayor to assist them with.

The Executive Mayor further committed the Municipality to ensuring that at the least, the high-mast lights were provided for the community of Phase 4 Tshepiso while the house connections were being explored. The meeting further agreed that consumer education be conducted for the beneficiaries of both Tshepiso North ext 3 and 4, so that unnecessary tensions between government and may be resolved going forward.

“It is clear for all to see that the service provider is back on site and the houses will be completed. I cannot overemphasize the need to work together on this project so that the community can benefit. This is only possible to do in an atmosphere of peace and calm. The need for stability on the ground will ensure that the service provider can complete the project on time”, said the Executive Mayor, Councillor Mahole Simon Mofokeng responding to some of the challenges that the community had raised.

The Executive Mayor appealed to the community of Phase 4 to provide this necessary peaceful and stable environment.

After this successful public meeting, the Executive Mayor was introduced to a 105 year old woman who was reported to be having no house despite having applied for it. Earlier in the public meeting, in response to this situation the community agreed that they would allow all old people in their area to be prioritised in the allocation of houses when they become available for beneficiaries.

The community of Tshepiso Phase 4 reported to the Executive Mayor that they were preparing for her 105th birthday party to be held on Saturday, 4th December 2010 in Tshepiso Phase 4 and invited him.

“I take this opportunity to invite all people of Tshepiso Phase 4 to join Nkgono Anna Ramothibe as she will be celebrating her 105th birthday to be organised by her community. This will be one of the most important days in her life”.
