At least 30 people with disabilities in the Sedibeng District Municipality will be empowered with life skills, business skills and training in organizational development thanks to a recent donation by the ABSA Foundation to the Medunsa Organisation for Disabled Entrepreneurs (MODE).

This initiative came as a result of the engagement between Sedibeng District Municipality, its local Municipalities and ABSA Corporate Social Investment group.

MODE’s approach focuses on skills development and business education, the initiative will help create jobs among a sector of society which unemployment is extremely high.

“ABSA became involved in this initiative, as we are committed to the creation of jobs in the country. We will endeavour to ensure that the initiative becomes sustainable and satisfied serious community need.  It is only through efforts undertaken by organizations such as MODE that progress can be made towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals,” said ABSA Corporate Social Investment General Manager.

“We as the Sedibeng District Municipality feel enormously proud to participate in an endeavour that will benefit people not just for the present, but for the rest of their lives. MODE is making a great example to other people by showing them that in order to get far in this world, you need to start helping yourself, by so doing others will help you along further,” said the Acting Executive Mayor of Sedibeng , Cllr. Dorcas Ralitsela.

ABSA has been the primary sponsor of MODE for 3 years where more than 60 people with disabilities received training before being assisted in starting their own business ventures.  Training for the current group of 30 will commence in early 2011.
