On the 1st January the Sedibeng District Municipality held a “Survivor’s Lunch,” where they commemorated the heroes and heroines who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for our freedom.

The annual event which was held at the Banquet Hall in Vereeniging treated guests to a hearty feast, musical entertainment as well as inspirational messages from members of the Khulumani Support Group.

The surprise of the day came when the Khulumani Support Group showed their appreciation to our honourable Executive Mayor Cllr.  Mahole Simon Mofokeng for the relentless effort he has taken to restore the true heritage of Sedibeng, he was presented with a Sesotho blanket called Seana Marena meaning “worn by kings.”

The event was attended by MMC Mluleki Nkosi, Municipal Manager Yunus Chamda, Executive Director Mosotho Petlane, the programme was directed by Councillor Sello Pitso and the vote thanks was delivered by Gauteng Legislature: MPL Nompi Nhlapo who was standing in for Sedibeng Speaker Cllr. Mogotsi.
