Sedibeng District Municipality in partnership with BenBen Technologies held an informal traders economic infrastructure equipment launch at Vereeniging Constitutional Square on the 31st of May 2018.

The main objectives of the launch
  • Is to re-emphasize commitment made of halving poverty and improving skills
  • To ensure increased, meaningful participation of SMMEs in the mainstream economic activities
  • Create jobs by initiating easy understandable, controllable and sustainable business ventures.
  • Uplifting township economy and decrease the level of unemployment rate in the region.

In attempting to meet the above objectives, BenBen Technologies developed Eco Trolleys which is a robust built business that has been made completely mobile in order to give young entrepreneur mobility in choosing or changing the business location. The trolleys are light and pulled by mountain bikes which is built to support one of the nine businesses   such as Chesa Nyama, Car wash, Hairdresser, Tuck shop, Coffee on the Go, Skhambane (Bunny Chow), etc. It also encourages local companies to consider buying these TROLLEYS for the unemployed in various sectors as part of their CSI Project.

“It is correctly pointed out that all provinces and municipalities across the country, unemployment, poverty and inequality are the most pressing socio-economic challenges affecting the largest proportion of the people of our province” said the acting Mayor of Sedibeng District Municipality, Cllr. Simon Maphalla.
“We are thankful that BenBen Technologies decided to partner with us in decreasing the rate of unemployment in our region, more especially for our youth. The people who will receive these mobile trucks should take good care of them, maintain them and most importantly create employment and stop depending on the government” said Cllr. Greta Hlongwane, MMC of Local Economic Development & Tourism.

The Sedibeng District Municipality views this occasion as a practical intervention that will support the enterprises of the disadvantaged in the informal business sector. The long term goal of this launch is to provide support in addressing key challenges faced by the informal businesses.
