Media Statement

Once again on 18 July 2019, the Nation will be celebrating the Nelson Mandela International Day and it is more than a celebration of Nelson Mandela’s life and legacy, it is a global movement to take his life’s work into a new era and change our world for the better. Mandela Day requires us all to “Take Action; Inspire Change; Make Every Day a Mandela Day.”

Tata followed three rules throughout his life, which he did at great personal sacrifice such as: Free Yourself, Free Others, and Serve Every day.
Restoring dignity means we need to take action against poverty, and we have to work together to do that. Each of us can make everyday a Mandela Day, by choosing to do something sustainable that will help community members eradicate poverty and ensure we realise the ideal of a dignified life.
Sedibeng District Municipality is no exception in this contribution. On the 18th July 2019 the Executive Mayor Cllr Busisiwe Modisakeng in partnership with Gauteng MEC for Social Development Mr Nkabinde -Khawe  and  various stakeholders embarked on a life changing programmes.
namely:

Cllr. Busisiwe Modisakeng, Executive Mayor of Sedibeng District Municipality, stood up with the words “Yes we can” simply because the municipality believes in improving the lives of both children and parents. She furthermore said that “this is a time for reflection and making a difference in the world particularly to the residents of Sedibeng”. All stakeholders involved showed gratitude and were honoured to be a part of this memorable event.

Mandela Day asks us all to “Take action; Inspire Change; Make everyday a Mandela Day”. In the words of Tata Madiba, “It always seems impossible, until it’s done”. Sedibeng District Municipality made this day a possible success and showed common humanity. The municipality will continue to encourage more companies to make their good deeds on-going and sustainable, rather than just once off. 67 minutes of a lifetime.
