PROFILE OF MELINA GOMBA

MELINA GOMBA is a 53 years old, married woman and a mother of 5 who grew up in Soweto and attended school in Soweto but later migrated to Midvaal. Her first signs of leadership were evidenced by having been a Student Representative Council Head at Thaba-Jabula Secondary School in Klipsruit Soweto.

Business Leadership
Melina recognized that her future lied in entrepreneurship as she has an eye to identify unsatisfied needs. Her first business was in cleaning and building construction through Maleya Contactors and Sant Melina cleaning Services. She started with 9 cleaners and later ended up having employed 180 employees in the cleaning business. The company was later taken over at the end of its contracts with Telkom by Mvela Serve.

In 2003 she established Malangeni Lodge and conference Centre in Walkerville. She has attracted an International Clientele. In 2009 Melina was in overall winner in Gauteng of ETEYA (Emerging Tourism entrepreneur of the year Awards) and represented Gauteng in Germany Berlin as a finalist.

Apart from identifying business opportunities with a profile motive, she is also inspired to address the plight of unemployed black women. In this regard, in 2002 she recruited women from all Gauteng Regions and she established a women bus company called Gauteng women in transport (Pty) Ltd. She approached PUTCO on behalf of women in trying to deal with bus industry transformation and monopoly. To date the women company has 10 busses and are subcontracted by PUTCO operating public transport from Soweto to Braamfontein, Randburg and Alberton routes. She served in the bus company as Executive Director Operations for 5 years until she resigned in 2007 .The bus company has since employed  15 drivers  2 cashiers and 2 administrators.

In 2007 she established Matshidiso Panel beaters and fitment Centre in Booysens which employed 4  panel beaters  , 2 mechanics  and 2 administrators which she later sold the company to a woman owned company.

Government Employment
