The Sedibeng District Municipality in partnership with Midvaal Local Municipality, MiDesk Global and the telecommunications giant Cell C donated 100 MiDesks to the Ratasetjaba Primary Farm School. The initiative is part of Cell C’s Back2School-Campaign and aims to enhance the learning environment for children who lack proper learning material.
“Our current socio-economic climate presents seemingly impossible situations for families that do not have the affordability to give their children the tools they need for a better future. It therefore becomes imperative for us as a collective—comprising of government, the business sector, and the community—to unite in supporting initiatives that uplift the lives of our people and ease the burden of their hardships” stated Cllr. Lerato Maloka, Executive Mayor of Sedibeng District Municipality.
The MiDesk, a groundbreaking wheelie schoolbag invented by Talita Boodhram at 16 years old while working on a science project, not only serves as a portable desk but also transforms into a chair, equipped with a solar light and USB charging portal. This innovative solution provides children with a versatile tool for learning, seamlessly transitioning between home and school environments. The MiDesk not only ensures that students have a comfortable chair and desk wherever they go but also integrates modern technology with its solar light and USB charging capabilities.
