With the aim of boosting economic growth and multi-stakeholder collaboration within the Sedibeng District, Executive Mayor of Sedibeng District Municipality, Cllr. Lerato Maloka brought together government leaders, industry captains, investors, and experts in regional planning and development.
This gathering was the result of months of discussions with various business organizations in order to strengthen public-private-partnerships. Under the umbrella of the District Development Model (DDM) uniting key stakeholders will drive up economic activity, attract investment, and create policies that will shape the future of the Sedibeng District.
"This journey goes well beyond just projects and creating an enabling economic environment. It is about building trust" said Executive Mayor Lerato Maloka in her opening speech. "The Sedibeng District isn’t just a geographical entity; it’s our shared legacy" she concluded.
The event was attended by Local Municipality Mayors as well as the MEC of Infrastructure and Development and Cooperative Governance, Honourable Jacob Mamabolo, with a notable attendance by Roelf Meyer. This show of unity emphasized the importance of building strong partnerships to strengthen confidence among stakeholders and community members.
One of the key topics discussed was the formation of committees to tackle the region’s economic development challenges. These committees, as highlighted by the Municipal Manager, Mr. MM Mathe and CEO of Vaal SEZ Mr. Xola will be co-led by members from both business and government sectors, will focus on removing obstacles to growth and making the region more attractive to investors.
The breakfast also highlighted the need for better planning, effective revenue strategies, and developing the skills needed to bring these big projects to life. The Development Bank of South Africa, along with local universities, will play a key role in supporting entrepreneurship and leadership.
As Sedibeng District moves forward with its vision to become a vibrant, dynamic Vaal River Smart City Region, the message is clear: "We are open for business." This united effort promises to not only transform the region but also to ensure that future generations inherit a thriving, sustainable, and inclusive community where dreams can become reality.
